How can I acknowledge the use of Generative AI?

Whenever you are allowed to use AI in an assessment, you must also:

  • Follow all instructions on its level of use according to the College's AI Assessment Scale.
  • Clearly document the type of AI used and how it contributed to your task
  • Provide written acknowledgment or explanation of how you used generative artificial intelligence
  • When necessary, cite and reference using the APA 7th Edition.

How can I acknowledge or explain how AI was used?

Very briefly explain the ways that you have used AI in the production of this assessment.

  • Explain which AI tools you have used and for what purposes. Describe what output from the tool/service has been included, and where.
  • If you have found and used tools on your own, explain why these tools were selected and provide a URL link to the tool.
  • Summarise how you have altered, adopted, or built on the AI output.

In addition, this acknowledgement, it is recommended that you also document the processes undertaken in creating the assessment, if requested by your teacher.

Follow this suggested format:

I used [ADD AI tool (ADD link if needed)] to [ADD how used] and [ADD number of iterations/drafts]. I modified the outputs in [ADD ways].

You can see this explanation in the following example with the Level 2 AI Planning,

I acknowledge the use of ChatGPT[2] (https://chat.openai.com/) to generate information that was included within my final assessment brochure in modified form. I entered the following prompts on 19 November 2025:

  • Find information sources on the life of Edmund Rice for a Year 7 Religion brochure. Summarise the information into dot points.

For example, Level 2 AI Planning,

I acknowledge the use of ChatGPT [2] (https://chat.openai.com/) to refine the academic language and accuracy of my own work. On 19 November 2025 I submitted my entire essay (link to OneDrive document here) with the instruction to “Improve the academic tone and accuracy of language, including grammatical structures, punctuation and vocabulary”. The output (here) was then modified further to better represent my own tone and style of writing.

FAQ: How do I list Generative AI as a source on my Bibliography?

At this point in time, do not use AI Generated content as a source.

AI might produce biased or incorrect content. Always double-check information and use the credible sources you find in your fact-checking on your Bibliography.

However, to acknowledge AI Generated content you can use APA 7th edition.

For an intext citation:

Edmund Rice was an Irish Catholic missionary and educationalist born in 1762 who founded the Christian Brothers to provide education for poor boys (OpenAI, 2025).
