About

The author-date method is the College's preferred method for in-text referencing.
The College's Citemaker referencing tool automatically generates an in-text author-date reference making this a very easy way for you to show in the text the source of your ideas or information.

APA conventions on the use of Group Author abbreviations

The APA's instructions on the use of group authors are:

"As with other abbreviations, provide the full name of the group on first mention in the text, followed by the abbreviation."

For example:

1. If the group name first appears in a narrative citation, include the abbreviation before the year in parentheses, separated with a comma. As shown in the example below:

The American Psychological Association (APA, 2017) provided information on overcoming opioid abuse.

2. If the group name first appears in a parenthetical citation, include the abbreviation in square brackets, followed by a comma and the year. As shown in the example below:

In the reference list entry, do not abbreviate the group author name. Instead, spell out the full name of the group as presented in the source. As shown below:

American Psychological Association. (2017, January 1). Understanding and overcoming opioid abusehttps://www.apa.org/topics/substance-use-abuse-addiction/opioid-abuse

Cite authors in text: APA conventions

Format author names according to how many authors the work has:

• One author: (Kim, 2023) or Kim (2023).

• Two authors: (Guirrez & Castillo, 2020) or Guirrez and Castillo (2020).

Use an ampersand in the parenthetical format; use “and” in the narrative format.

• Three or more authors: (Zheng et al., 2023) or Zheng et al. (2023).

Should I keep the hyperlinks or web identifer in APA citation?

The APA doesn't specify. However, if the assignment is an online document  it's useful to the reader to keep the hyperlinks. If the assignment is a paper, then remove the hyperlinks.
